Cowboy Watercolour and Christmas Star Block Arrives

Joe has been asking me to do a watercolor of a cowboy and his horse for a long time, so that is exactly what I did for him. I really enjoyed doing this one, as Joe was ecstatic about it.

Joe and I both love westerns. I used to watch all the westerns on television when I was growing up, like Wagon Train, Sugarfoot, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, the Virginian, Cheyenne, High Chapparell, Branded, Bonanza, Lawman, and the list goes on. I loved them all! I was a Western show fanatic for sure. Plus, I know how to sing all the theme songs of each and every one of the shows. Joe and I both love the Western movies, especially the Lonesome Dove Series, Maverick, Unforgiven, and lest we not forget all of the John Wayne movies. There are too many to name!
Of course, being a Native American fan, I really did not like the way Hollywood portrayed the Indians, until I saw Dances With Wolves, which was a beautiful, unforgettable film. The Indians were finally being shown in their true light.

Getting back to my watercolor, I made the cowboy look a lot like Joe...an artist's prerogative. I really love the way it turned out, especially the effects I got with the colors.

Well, I was also busy today finishing my Irish Coffee wall hanging, which I will post about tomorrow. Joe needs to take a pic of it, and then he will be hanging it up in our kitchen. It just seems to fit a
kitchen, and anyways goes with the colors there.

Last, but certainly not least, I received a Christmas star block from Crafty Pug. Isn't it lovely? I sent her a star too, as we were partners in December. In addition, a piece of the fabric that she used for the star, and a gorgeous postcard. Thanks so much!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post when I show you my finished Irish Coffee wall hanging. It turned out so cute! Also, tomorrow will be a giveaway...won't tell you about it till I post...I know I am a tease.

If you ever get to Hawaii, we'll have to get together for a few choruses of Rawhide & Maverick!

I watched all of the same westerns when I was growing up.. I loved Clint Eastwood as Rowdie Yates in "Rawhide." A few years ago, I found a CD of "Christmas at the Ponderosa" and gave it to my husband in his stocking. The setting is a Christmas party at the ranch and Pa and the boys all sing solos. The neighbors all chat about Christmas customs. My children can't understand why we drag it out every year to listen to it with the other Christmas records. Although it wasn't meant to be funny, it really is hysterical.
Love your watercolor of cowboy Joe.

How dear this piece is with the image of your husband as the subject! It's a family treasure, indeed, an heirloom.

I remember all the old westerns too. We have DISH network and the Western channel had a Wagon Train marathon on New Years day so I recorded all the shows with the DVR. It's fun to watch them all again. Some of my favorite movies are John Wayne but I especially love his late 50's and the 60's westerns.

One of the coolest things we did on vacation is go to Old Tuscon. I just walked around in a state of delight. They had all those old Western themes playing through loudspeakers. I thought, "I knew it. I just knew life came with a soundtrack back then!" The watercolor is amazing. You are so talented!

What a lovely piece! you got me thinking about taking a watercolor class, I did a few years ago in a mixed media art class at college but then I moved more in family life. But as for the westerns, not so much I'm afraid but I did love Ponderosa...does that qualify as a real western...lol!

Wow I watched all those Westerns when growing up plus a few more like "Cheyenne" and I can't remember the name of the one which starred Ty Hardin. Great watercolour!

Your watercolor is great, I really admire artistic ability, although I have .5 on a scale of 1 to 10. I watched all those old westerns too, and loved them. My mother always liked Have Gun Will Travel. She said (rather homely) Paladin was fascinating. Westerns were out of vogue for a long time, I couldn't believe it when I said something about a Posse to my teenagers (before rap) and they didn't know what I was talking about.
