I finally finished the African quilt top. I just have to now add the batting and backing, machine quilt it and complete the binding, but I did want you to see it. Joe stood on a chair and then stood on top the dresser to catch the whole wall hanging. The two borders that I used are the gold African fabric and then the darker pattern with yellow and black fabric. Don't count the purple that you see...it is only part of the bedspread. The circles and background has a bit more black in the Fairy Frost, but that is the best that Joe could catch it, as the flash went off. I am really so happy about it.
As to putting it together, it is not easy. I laid out the individual blocks and put them in the color pattern that I wanted. I had to pick them up the row in the order that I would have to sew it and I put sticky notes to mark the numbers of the rows. Then I sewed the blocks into rows and finally sewed the rows together. There are a lot of matching seams that you have to worry about to get the pattern just right, so this is definitely not a quilt for a beginner. I did enjoy making it so much! I will have to order the backing fabric and batting and will do that when I order the batiks for the two zebra pillows I am making. That is my next project....two 30x30 inch pillows where I will applique two zebras against a gorgeous African background.
I am making an African quilt once I finish the pillows, but it will be an elephant appliqued scene in the centre of the quilt, and then a colour wash effect for the rest of the quilt that I will create with the tons of four inch half square blocks that I will cut out with my AccuQuilt GO. I decided that I would make a different quilt to go with the African theme rather than a larger quilt made from the Drunkard pattern. I think the whole ensemble will be pretty.
Off to get dinner on the table. Joe is having a cottage pie that I made for him and I am having vegetarian.

Your quilt is beautiful. Love all the colors. Your hubby was brave to get up there and take the picture. Nola
Beautiful use of those fabrics! Can't wait to see it quilted!
I love that piece and the fabrics are beautiful.
That would be fun with unique fabrics, but I would be tempted to make with applique circles, lol.

What a beautiful quilt! I don't think I am ready the circle thing yet, but I am beyond happy to gaze at yours! Hope all is well, how is Bobbi?
Congratulations on getting your Drunkards Path top finished so quickly! It seems like you just started it yesterday. I'm sure all of that curved piecing forced you to slow down a bit. It sounds like you will have a whole African themed room before you are done.
your African quilt sounds lovely Micki, but unfortunately I can't see the photo, I shall call back later and maybe then. I am sure it is gorgepus knowing some of your work!
beautiful!!!!!!
j love so much the fabric and the design.

I love your quilt. And, I love ethnic fabrics. Can't wait too see it all quilted.
Wow, this is really striking! I know this isn't an easy pattern to piece, and it looks awesome. There must be something in the air right now, I'm working on a doll with a similar African theme.
Great work Micki, good for you to do the 'curve' thing, I steer clear of curves LOL, although I did read your tutorial, I really should give it a go. This quilt is very exotic!!!
You are SO fast! It looks great.
looks great! Circles look very neat.
I love this quilt. The combination of the circles and the fabric create an exotic feel. I can't wait to see the pillows and the elephant quilt.
Sua colcha ficou maravilhoasa.

Your quilt turned out wonderfully...just love the colors...
My DP didn't turn out quilt as neat as yours did. I either need more practice or I need that curvemaster foot.
Really stunning.. looks really difficult.. Are you quilting it yourself?? How big is it??
Have a good week and take care.

Your African quilt top looks amazing. I have to giggle though about your poor Hubby. You had him standing on a chair and then on a dresser to get the perfect picture for you. What love!
It's really pretty, Micki. I can't wait to see the whole room!

So pretty - you did a lovely job!!!
WOW it is gorgeous! WEll done.
It's just lovely. I have a trip planned to Africa with a quilter friend this year. Perhaps she will also be inspired.
Not being a quilter, I am amused that there is a drunkard pattern. I imagine the lines are all over the place.
Beautiful quilt! great job with all those curves!
That's just lovely, Micki. I love the colors and your workmanship is wonderful.
Happy quilting,

Micki, congrats on finishing the African quilt. The fabrics are beautiful and the circles make the quilt zing. Hope Bobbi is doing good...you too sweetie.
Your African quilt looks great so far. The way you listed what you had left to do made me chuckle. Thanks! You are a very talented lady, reading, watercolouring, computers..... I love life too!
