I am thoroughly enjoying doing my watercolor journal. I love doing portraits, and probably enjoy doing them more than landscapes. I think that it is because I have always been amazed by faces. Having taken one of my Master's Degrees in Clinical Psychology, I love to be able to see into the person's eyes and see the wealth of information. It is not easy catching the expression in painting, and of course you have to get the features just right. This Indian that I did the watercolor on has an incredibly expressive face, doesn't he? That is what I remember the most...all the wonderful faces of the Indians that I taught and got to know.
A parcel arrived in the mail....Yeah! I finally got the African fabric that I ordered. Isn't it just incredible? I will be making my African quilt that I planned in EQ6. I am so excited about it. Wait till you see it...it is going to be so pretty!

I also ordered black Michael Miller fairy frost fabric to coordinate with the African fabrics. If you know Fairy Frost is very textured and beautiful. Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop sent it out chic choc, as she always does, and I expect that to arrive early this week Anyways, you have a pic to see what it looks like. I love Fairy Frost!
When the Fairy Frost arrives, I will be able to begin the wall hanging. The pattern is based on a Drunkard Path pattern, but the color choices are important in this design, and I think the African fabrics combined with the black will be wonderful. I have it all laid out in EQ6, and it is going to be gorgeous.Of course, I will be using the AccuQuilt Go to help me cut all of this out.

This is a pic of the pattern that I will be making for two large zebra pillows. It also arrived in the mail. I just fell in love with it. Joe wants two big pillows on our bed for when we watch movies in bed. I do plan on making a quilt to go with the wall hanging and pillows. Joe with a big smile on his face, said that our bedroom is going to remind him of an African safari. It's going to be exotic for sure. I am ordering some batiks for the African landscape, and I found a place that had zebra fabric....The pillows will be 26"x26".

Guess what came in the mail? Our
E Machine 350 that Joe won. It is just adorable, but more importantly, it works perfectly. It has Windows 7 on it, and I love, love, love
it!
That's the latest news...all good and happy news. Hope you have a great weekend!

You always get me motivated! I am contemplating my choices for my next project. I have too many UFO's to count, but really need a new wall hanging. What's a quilter to do? I love your drawings, you are very talented !
Great post Micki. Love, love ethnic fabric.
A lot of things seem to be happening on your side of the big water! Enjoy your new fabrics, and I know Joe will enjoy his new toy :-)
You certainly have some special talents in so many areas. It is so difficult to capture and draw faces. I was looking at the picture and it looked to me like the date you put on it was 13/01/2012? I think you might be ahead of yourself by one year - or else I am totally confused - which is always a possibility!
I am a big fan of African fabrics as well - that looks like a great bunch of fabrics you got there. Have fun with them.
I can tell you like portraits, it shows in your work, really beautiful pieces that show the emotions of the native americans.
Can't wait to see your african quilt. I actually started one years ago with animals, wonder what I did with it, lol.

I also love faces, and have been enjoying experimenting with creating various ones for my dolls, either stitched, beaded or sculpted from clay. Your drawn image is very expressive, I agree!

Hi Micki, I have to tell you your watercolour painting is beautiful. Many people don't realize how hard water colour is to do.
