My Michael Miller Fairy Frost finally arrived. I was ecstatic to say the least. Now, I could start my African quilt. I had worked on the design in EQ6 and I was finally starting. I don't have the Drunkard Path Die for the GO yet. I told Kelly from IHAN that I was getting it for the matching quilt that I will be making, but right now, I have to order tons of things from IHAN for my Rose of Sharon quilt, plus batik fabrics that I will be getting from The Fat Quarter Shop for the zebra pillows, so that will be enough money to spend. Thus, I used templates. Needless to say, it took me loads of time. I have been spoiled by the AccuQuilt GO, so it wasn't easy, but I finished cutting it all. Joe took a pic, but it wasn't easy to catch all of the various types of African fabrics that I used. Also, the Fairy Frost is a darker black with that silver pattern, but the black did not show through...Don't ask me why, but it could have been the flash...LOL
Now the fun begins...I begin to sew the Drunkard Path blocks. The block will measure 7 and a half inches x7 and half inches and each 4-block unit will form a circle. When it finishes, you will see the surprise in the quilt...I won't say what...but it will be based on the colors that I am using.
Got your curiosity going?
The quilt will be 53x53, and will be used as a wall hanging over our bed.
Let me tell you this... after the cutting that I did today, I will appreciate the GO even more when Kelly sends me the die in February. I can't imagine doing what I did today for the
larger African quilt that will match the wall hanging...no way Jose!
Before I do the quilt, I will be doing the zebra pillows, so I have lots to do before this ensemble for our bedroom is finished.
Stay tuned later this week for the completed top...You will love this one.
Oh, I convinced Joe to let me get a kitten. It is between a Birman or a Snowshoe. Tell me which one you like. They both have white boots, but the Birman has longer hair.( He's the one on the right.)I am leaning towards the Birman. Joe doesn't like cats, but I told him that once he sees either of these, he will fall in love. Anyway, he said, "Yes."

I tend to agree with you on the Birman. It is one adorable kitty.
I love all cats so I think you should see which one has the personality that suits you and your lifestyle, if that is possible option.
The two kitties are beautiful, but I wonder have you considered a Devon Rex kitty? My husband wasn't a cat person either, but we both are in love with our little Devon. They have no guard hairs (just velvet-soft wavy undercoats), so they do not shed like other cats and are considered hypoallergenic. Also, they have incredible interactive personalities, even play fetch. Some call them "dog-cats". Take a peek at this blog: Daisy the Curly Cat -- http://daisythecurlycat.blogspot.com/
I will be watching for progress on your project later this week. The fabrics are great!
Oh! Micki, you will not regret getting a kitty, they are such wonderful companions, I agree with the lady who says you should see which one has the personality that gels with yours - that's the best barometer. Believe me, Joe will quietly fall in love with it too, even if he doesn't admit it LOL... My Miss Mini has such fun playing with one of my dogs!
On the creative side, you have got lots going on, look forward to seeing your African creations. Have fun with it all.
I do like the Birman better, it is ever so much cuter. I have never owned a cat, but wonder about the fur all over. Do cats leave fur all over like long haired dogs do? I do love my doggies, but they must have short hair. I'm really looking forward to seeing what you have when you get your Rose of Sharon die.. I LOVE that style of quilt.. but cutting those shapes.. mmm not so much.. I'm a chicken.
Congratulations on deciding to get a new kitty. How nice to have a warm fuzzy companion on a cold winter's day. Congratulations on getting all of those blocks cut out by hand. That must have been a huge job. I hope they come together well. I have the die but have not been brave enough to use it yet. I've had painful experiences with curved piecing.
I like the Birman. I have a flame point Himalayan, Tinkerbell. I got here from the SPCA, they thought she was possibly three years old. Nobody claimed her so I took her home. She is the sweetest dearest cat and just loves to be with you. Not a lap cat though, but a sit by your side cat. I had always had a cat from a kitten, but she soon adapted. I would probably never have spent the money to go out and buy one. But we love her.
The Birman looks lovely.

Love your new fabrics and can't wait to see what you make with them. I was just watching a show with that pattern, but she did it by sewing the circle on a square, then cutting.
If I had to choose, I would go with the birman, unless you want less hair, then the snowshoe. I tend to pick kitties by personality, though I seem to get really obnoxious ones, wonder what that says about me, lol.

Either kitten is adorable. I agree with you that Joe will soon fall in love with your new companion. Kittens are cute!
I can't wait to see your surprise... I've had cats all my life until about 5 years ago, then I started having allergic reactions to their dander. I miss having one around. I would probably go with the short hair because of the lack of hair, but they are both beautiful.
The Birman is definitely cute, but I like short hairs better myself. I suppose they seem more sturdy to me. OK - that is just silly! Your heart will tell you which to get!
You are going to busy piecint Micki, it sounds like a new addiction in the making.
I would pick the Birman as well. Even though I do love all kitties too..but less hair is better.
Guess what I am your Doll swap partner. I am so very very excited.
Those african fabrics will look wonderful with the drunkards path pattern.
Love the Birman....
A very handsome cat but I am also partial to moggies.
I am a two kitty house. We just have regular cats, but they are lovely and I love them. One is a calico the other is a muted orange. My neighbor had a Burmese and it was the sweetest cat I have even known.
Have fun with your new kitty.
I like the kitty with the long hair....
Wow...you certainly have alot going on...can't wait to see your African quilt, and your Rose of Sharon.
Joe is the sweetest. Birman for me too... so cute!
I think the cat on the right is prettier than the other one because she has longer fur. But think about it, longer fur means more hair everywhere. And believe they do loose their hair all year long.

Definitely love the Birman, he's so cute. I do love cats and think they are so lovely. I'm sure Joe will fall in love with your kitten. Bye, Clara.
That sounds like alot of cutting! I love both cats.
Micki they're both adorable!!! I just love kitties and can't imagine not having one. My moggy is adorable - just a simple tabby. But I have to say my next will be a Rag Doll cat. Very similar to the Birman in looks but quite a different personality - they act just like the name suggests lol.
Can't wait to see your wallhanging, those fabrics are great!!
Hugs,
Joy :o)
We have two very delightful Siamese cats. From past experience I say you should get both. There is nothing more delightful than seeing a comfy chair filled with two cats all rolled in a ball. This kind of cat can get very vocal; two kinda cut down on that sometimes but not always.
Oi!!!
Parabéns pela decisão, seu gato é adorável.

I can't wait to see what the surprise is! I bet there's gonna be a big ole zebra in the middle (ok, probably not, but sounded like fun!)
I like the Birman kitty - he looks more lovable...my hubby finally let me get a puppy (year old) after about a year without and now, you know whose lap she sits in, don'tcha!? Oh, she's a daddy's girl, for sure!
I am so coveting a Go or other kind of cutter! Hmm, maybe I can justify it with working on a drunkards path. As for the kitty, well I have to say we are dog people, we have the sweetest, most laid back bulldog. But these look adorable.
You could get one of each?! I love cats, so chooseing would be hard. Can't wait to see what you are creating! Great fabrics, that's for sure.
I like the idea of getting one of each! I do like the look of the Birman best but at the end of the day, you're heart will let you know. Congratulations!
My vote goes for the Birman too. What a sweet face! How exciting for you.
Oh, Micki, those DP blocks must have been a pain to cut out. Next thing you know, you will have arthritis in your hands too!!!! I can't wait to see it finished up. Have fun sewing!
You really have been hard at work, and I love the african fabrics. Brings back memories from when we lived there.
The cats look siamese to me, I always thought I would like a siamese for some reason, but since I know nothing about cats...pretty though!
Love the Birman!
